Reasons why people keep goats
They are kept for cultural like paying
dowry, ritual and pride
They are kept for food security i.e meat and
milk production
They are kept for commercial purposes; i.e.
selling their products to get money
Uses of goats
They provide meat
Some goats provide milk
Goat framing is a profitable business venture
Their skins are used for making belts, bags, shoes drum, tops,
dancing costumes etc.
Their droppings are a good source of farm manure
Advantages of keeping goats
They are tolerant to extreme climate conditions
Goats feed on most vegetation
They have low water demand
They are more disease resistant
Goat farming can provide sustainable employment
They provide manure or plants
Examples of goat breeds include;
Mubende, small East African, Boer, toggenburg, Nigerian dwarf,
etc.
