Measurements

Measurement is the process of finding out how long,

short, big, small, heavy or light an object is.

There are different units of measurement for length,

mass and capacity. You need to know how to read a
measurement scale to know how many units there

are.

Length

Length is a measure

of how long or wide

something is. Rulers

and tape measures

can be used to measure

length.

Length is measured in millimetres

(mm), centimetres (cm), metres

(m) or kilometres (km), Hectome-

tres (Hm), Decametres (Dm).

These are known as metric units of

length.

1 cm = 10 mm
1 m = 100 cm

1 km = 1000 m
