Importance of immunization
Over a million people around the world die every year from
diseases that can be prevented by immunization.
Immunization can be oral or by injection
In brief:
It makes the body resistant to targeted disease
It reduces infant mortality rate
It makes the body produce antibodies
.
Antibodies
Antibodies are chemicals produced by the body (white blood
cells) to fight disease causing organisms in the body.
Note: Substances that stimulates the production of anti-
bodies are called Antigens. (Vaccines are antigens because
they stimulate the body to produce antibodies for specific dis-
eases)
