It has the following properties.


          It has little humus


          It has fine particles

          It is poorly aerated


          It retains a lot of water


          It is sticky and heavy


          It is suitable for pottery.







         Sand Soil



         Sandy soils are free draining, with the largest, but fine and hard parti-

         cles. It has a gritty feel. It does not bind very well.


         It is poor in holding water and easily warms up in the spring season.

         Sandy soils are very low in nutrients, as they are usually washed

         away.

         It is usually formed from the weathering or disintegration of bedrock

         such as shale, limestone, granite and quartz.



          It has the following properties


          It is well drained


          It has poor rate of capillarity



          It has large and rough particles


          It is well aerated


          It dries quickly



          It is suitable for construction
