Bimetallic strip
When the copper side is heated, it becomes longer—making
the strip to become convex shaped.
The reason why copper is longer than steel on heating is be-
cause copper expands faster than steel.
Preventing effects of heat
1. Gaps should be left between railway lines to allow expansion
on hot weather
2. Electric wires should be loosely fixed on poles to allow con-
traction on cold weather
3. Spaces should be left in soda bottles to allow the expansion
of liquids inside.
