Expansion and contraction
Expansion is the increase in size of an object
Heating is a common cause of expansion in objects
Contraction is the decrease in size of an object
When heat is lost from a substance the particles move slower
and closer; hence contraction
The different states of matter expand and contract at different
rates.
Gasses expand/contract fastest followed by liquids and solids
respectively
.
The next experiments demonstrate expansion in the different
states of matter
