General measures to prevent livestock diseases
Maintain hygiene
Remove infected animals. Isolate or kill and burry infected
animals
Control vectors. Clear bushes and swamps and use sprays
Treat animals in time. Vaccinate and deworm whenever nec-
essary
Stay in touch with your doctor. Invite a veterinary doctor on
the farm for periodical checkups; not only when animals are
sick
Disinfect animal houses and pastures before use
When you identify a sick animal don’t begin treating it im-
mediately because some symptoms are common to many
diseases. Immediately take it to a veterinary centre for a la-
boratory analysis to identify the exact disease and be guided
on necessary measures.
General problems faced by goat farmers in Uganda

Poor breeds are predominant
Predators. Goats are targets of many predators.
Dry seasons and shortage of water
