Functions of parts of a flowering plant.
1. Terminal bird – Growing tip of the plant.
2. Auxiliary bud – grows into branch, flower etc.
3. Node – Point a stem whose leaf grows.
4. Internode- The region between two nodes
5. Root cap -Protects the tip of hair root.
A flowering plant consists of two systems
1. Root systems
2. Shoot system.
Root System
This is a part of a plant which grows in the soil.
A true root system develops from the radicle of the embryo in dicoty-
ledonous plants,
Roots of plants which grow from a part of a plant different from the
radicle are called adventitious roots.
Functions of roots to plant
Roots hold the plant firmly in the soil
Roots absorbs water and mineral salts from the soil by the
process of osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of molecules
from the region of low concentration to the region of high
water concentration through a semi-membrane.
In some plants roots store food for the plants
Some roots help to give plants extra support
