Near-drowning
Drowning is dying as a result of having lungs filled water.
Drowning has no first aid since the victim dies.
However, near-drowning is temporary loss of breath due to
having one’s lungs filled with water. A person who has nearly
drowned has only four minutes to live. Therefore a first aider
must be very fast to save his life.
First Aid
Remove the victim quickly from water
Shout for help
Lay the person on his back.
Carry out mouth to mouth breathing (kiss of life)
How to carry out mouth to mouth respiration
Make the victim to lie on his back
Tilt the head backwards and keep his mouth open
Remove any object stuck in the mouth
Press the victim’s nostrils with your fingers to close them
Put your mouth directly into the mouth so that the chest ris-
es.
Stop a bit to let the air out and blow again
Repeat this many times (about 15 times in a minute)
Continue the steps until the victim can breathe again by
himself.
