Fish belongs to the group of vertebrates called pisces. Their
combination of gills, fins and the fact that they live only in
the water make fish different from other animals.
Characteristics of fish
1. They live in water
2. Fish have gills that extract oxygen from the water around
them.
3. They lay eggs which hatch into fries. Their eggs are ferti-
lized by the male from outside the female’s body in water
(external fertilization)
