How a fish is adapted to living in water


          1. It has a streamlined body best for swimming.


          2. With gills they can get oxygen dissolved in water

          3. Fish have fins for swimming


          4. They have lateral lines to detect sound waves and pres-

              sure.


          5. slippery scales help fish to flee from predators

          6. Some have electric organs which give out high voltage of

              electric shock to its enemy.


          7. Some fish are poisonous and use it this against their ene-

              mies.




          Reproduction in fish


           Female fish lay eggs in shallow water where the male
              sheds sperm over them.

           Fish undergo external fertilization.
           Many eggs are laid but only a few hatch and develop into

              adults.
           Note; most fish do not take care of their young ones except


              the tilapia fish.




          Uses of fish to man


           Fish are a good source of food to man and other animals


           Their bones are used to make glue


           They are kept as pets in aquarium for decoration


           They are sources of employment e.g. fish mongers.
