Brooding




     Brooding is the giving of special care to chicks from the time of


     hatching to nearly eight weeks.





            Types of Brooding



                              1. Natural Brooding

                              This is where the parent hen provides warmth,

                             security care and food to young chicks.


                             Advantages


                               It is cheap in terms of expense


                               The hen looks for food for its chicks


                               The hen provides security for the chicks


                               The farmer does not need to                                    provide

         too much attention


     Disadvantages


       The parent hen cannot provide enough

         security from many predators and

         thieves


       It cannot be done on large scale


       In case of death of mother bird, chicks

         will be left without care.


       Some parent hens are just not good enough

         parents to give good care for the

         chicks
