Feeding in Chicken
The Food (Mash) given to birds must always be put in clean
feeding troughs and clean water in the water trough.
Food Composition
Maize meal (in some countries; wheat, sorghum, cassava)
Silver fish
Bone meal
Common salt
Cotton seed cakes
Wheat brand
Soybean
Crushed snail shells
(for calcium to make strong
egg shells)
Food grades
Age Type of feed (Mash)
1 day – 8 weeks Chick mash (for faster growth)
Or broilers mash for broilers
8weeks – 16 weeks Growers mash (layers)
Above 16 weeks Layers mash
Laying birds should be given greens to supply vitamins, mineral
salts and to keep them busy to reduce vices.
Birds should be given feeds with stones to help in crushing food.
