Soil Erosion

Soil fertility is where soil contains enough water, air, humus

and nutrients for successful plant growth. It refers to the abil-

ity of a soil to sustain agricultural plant growth

         Ways of maintaining soil fertility

          Practicing crop rotation

 Leaving the soil to rest

          Practicing mulching

          Using fertilizers

          Bush fallowing

 Growing plants that fix nutrients into the soil, such as leg-

            umes (nitrogen fixation)

There are two groups of soil fertilizers namely:

         1. Natural Fertilizers

         2. Artificial fertilizers

         1. Natural Fertilizers

These are organic fertilizers which are made from de-

         cayed animal and plant remains

         They include:

         a) Farm yard manure. This is got

            from decayed and animal dung

            and urine.
