Filtration
This is a process of separating
solid insoluble substance
(particles) from a liquid
The method involves the use
of a filter paper , sieve , a
piece of cloth and a funnel
The solid particles that re-
mains on the filter or sieve
are called residues and the
liquid that goes through the
filter / sieve is referred to as
a filtrate.
Filtration at home is used when
Removing seeds from juice
Removing tea leaves from tea
Crystallisation & Evaporation to Dryness
This is the separation of dissolved solid from a solution as well
-formed crystals
Evaporation to Dryness –
It’s separation of dissolved solid from a solution as crystals of
salt by evaporating all the liquid off.
Why crystallisation occur?
The solubility of most solutes decrease as temperature de-
crease, when the solution cools, it can’t hold more solute
(saturated) so the extra solute separates as pure crystals.
