Heat and Energy
Energy is the ability to do work.
.
Types of energy.
.
1. Kinetic energy
Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by a moving object (an
object in motion) e.g. a stone thrown in air, a leaf falling on the
ground, a boy running.
.
2. Potential energy
Potential energy is the energy possessed by a body at rest. E.g.
a parked car, a resting stone, a book placed on a table.
Forms of energy
Forms of energy are produced by objects.
1. Electric energy—Electrical energy is a type of kinet-
ic energy caused by moving electric charges. The amount
of energy depends on the speed of the charges – the faster
they move, the more electrical energy they carry.
2. Heat energy—Heat, energy that is transferred from one
body to another as the result of a difference in temperature.
3. Chemical energy—Chemical energy is a form of potential en-
ergy that will only be observed when it is released in a
chemical reaction.
4. Sound energy—Sound energy is the energy produced by vi-
brating sound waves.
