Sound is a form of energy that stimulates the sense of hearing.

Sound are vibrations that travel though air o another medium

and are sensed by hearing (ears).

         Types of sound

Sound can be loud sound, soft sound, noise, high or low sound.

Music is an organized sound produced by regular vibrations

while noise is sound produced by irregular vibrations.

         Sources of sound

 A source of sound is where sound waves originate from

 Sound travels through a medium by sound waves.

 Sound travels fastest in solids, faster in liquids and only fast

            in gases.

 Sound does not travel in a vacuum.

Natural sources of sound are materials that produce their

own sound naturally i.e. sound from living things such as

birds, humans, animals, sound from natural features such as

         thunder and volcanic eruptions.

Artificial sources of sound are materials controlled by hu-

mans in order to produce sound.

         They are mainly musical instruments.

e.g. guitar, drum, keyboard, flute, tube fiddle, xylophones etc.

A horn is used in vehicles and it makes a ‘honk’ or ‘beep’ sound

to tell other vehicles or people to give way.
