Breathing rate

In humans, the average rate of breathing is dependent upon

age. A newborn's normal breathing rate is about 40 times each
minute and may slow to 20 to 40 times per minute when the

         baby is sleeping.

For adults, the average resting respiratory rate for adults is 12

to 16 breaths per minute. Physical exertion also has an effect

on respiratory rate, and healthy adults can average 45 breaths 4

         per minute during strenuous exercise.

         Respiration and Energy

 Respiration is the chemical burning of food (in form of glu-

cose) in the presence of oxygen in order to release

             (produce) energy
  t r
 Water and carbon dioxide are released as by products.

 Respiration takes place in the body cells
