Local breeds are those breeds that are indigenous to the

area where they are farmed

Example: Mubende goat, Somali goat, Small East African

Goat Samburu.

Characteristics of local breeds

 They take time to mature

 They are resistant to tropical diseases

 They can survive on poor pasture and drought
