Starting a Piggery Project

Factors to consider starting a piggery

These are the questions that Ugandan farmers ask themselves

before starting a piggery project (and other farming project

        generally)
        1. Capital. How much is required and can you get it?

        2. Land. Space to start such a farm

        3. Labour. Do you have the right man power or machinery to

            undertake the project?

        4. Availability and ease of access to market for piggery prod-

            ucts

        5. Community around proposed site of farm: Muslims and

many non-muslims are not comfortable living near a piggery

farm. They may raise concerns to authorities or become hos-

            tile.

        6. Type of breed to rare. Which will be the most profitable

            breed.

        7. Ease of access to feeds and water

        8. Legal requirement that applies to piggery, e.g. health, loca-

            tion, licensing, etc
