Effects of temperature and wind on sound

         1. Sound is heard more clearly during day, waves move close to

            the ground at higher temperatures.

         2. When it is hot , sound waves rise higher above the ground.

         3. At night temperatures are lower (it is cool)

         4. Wind carry sound further if it is blowing the same direction;

but if it is blowing against the sound it obstructs

         Pitch

This is the highness or lowness of sound. / is the sharpness or

         mildness of sound.

Pitch of sound can also be caused due to the amplitude pro-

         duced.

The faster the body vibrates, the higher the frequency and

         sound produced.

Factors that affect pitch of sound.

The following are the conditions that may make produced

sound heard with a low or high pitch.

         i. Frequency.

         ii. Tension of the string.

         iii.Surface area for vibration.

         iv. Length of the string.

         Frequency

This is the number of vibrations per second. / number of os-

cillations made by a particle per second.
