Adaptations of flowers for cross pollination

 The male and female flower occur on the same plant but ma-

ture at different times i.e. the stamen may mature earlier
than the pistil e.g. maize plant and coconut plant

 The male and female flowers occur on separate plants e.g

            pawpaw

 The pollen grains cannot germinate on the stigma of the

same flowers and if they do, fertilization cannot occur e.g.

            passion fruit flower.

Examples of plants that undergo cross pollination.

Pawpaws, Passion fruits, pumpkins, Broccoli, water melons,

         cucumbers, etc.

         Advantages of cross pollination

 Cross pollination can result into new varieties of plants

 It can take place even if stamens do not mature at the same

            time as pistils

         Disadvantages of cross pollination

 Cross pollination can result into un desirable plant breeds

These are the factors or ways responsible

for the transfer of pollen grains to the stigma. A * L /
