Breast milk is the only food required for a baby up to four
months.
A breast feeding mother needs to eat foods and drink fluids
that will help baby produce enough milk for her baby
Fluids: to stimulate milk production in her breast e.g clean
boiled water, milk, fruit juices, millet & maize porridge, etc
Calcium: to replace the calcium in her body that the child is
taking in breast milk.
Weaning children
Weaning is the gradual removal of the baby from breast milk
by introduction of other foods. OR Weaning is the gradual in-
troduction of solid foods to a baby other than breast milk
alone.
Weaning is to a custom a child to solid foods other than breast
milk alone.
Solid food should not be started before four months (17
weeks). This is because below 4 months the baby’s digestive
system isn’t ready enough.
