Methods of deworming pigs

Pigs should be dewormed regularly to kill common worms

that attack pigs

 Round worms

 Liver flukes

 Tape worms

Heat period in pigs

Heat period is the time when the female animal is ready for

mating.

Breeding

Breeding is to facilitate mating between female and male ani-

mals.

Signs of heat in pigs

1. The sow mounts other sows and walls or other objects

2. The sow becomes restless and more prominent

3. Makes sounds with high-pitched whining

4. It takes so much interest in the boar. It readily accepts to be

mounted

5. The Vulva of the sow swells and turns red

6. The animal urinates more frequently than usual.

7. White mucus discharge comes from the vagina

8. Loss of appetite in sows

The gestation period of a pig (sow) is 3 month 3 weeks and 3

days
